Now lets see how we teach students about the brain...
So how could we tackle the basic brain anatomy lesson using S.T.E.A.M.? Two words
Brain Hat!
Brain Hat?
Brain Hat!
S.T.E.A.M is awesome! No not the hot air that comes out of the pot while you make pasta, but the teaching concept. S.T.E.A.M. is the combination of science, technology, engineering, art, and math... see how they got there now. Now lets see how we teach students about the brain... A labeled picture of the brain on a slideshow!! So much fun!!!!...No So how could we tackle the basic brain anatomy lesson using S.T.E.A.M.? Two words Brain Hat! Brain Hat? Brain Hat! The choice is yours educators. You teach using the same old boring methods with slides of the brain. Or you could incorporate S.T.E.A.M. into your lesson and even make your own Brain Hat!

The brain hat idea is absolutely amazing! If I ever teach about the brain I am definitely incorporating this!

You are a genius! I am in love with this activity! The only thing I would want to see would be the designs that would allow teachers to print off and have the students use to create the hat.

Well the students would receive information on the regions of the brain and what each region generally "controls" The students would then be able to incorporate these concepts onto the hat to better help them remember.

This is a great idea to develop a tangible and relevant artifact that a student will be able to take with them. Although it seems to me after reading other blog posts as well engineering seams to be the most difficult practice to incorporate into a lesson. Any thoughts on how to incorporate engineering into this activity?

Do you feel STEAM (STEM+Art) goes as far as possible into what interdisciplinary study and application can do? For example your brain cap is fantastic but connects really well with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein because that diagram style was used in the same era the story takes place in. Instead of just art therefore, could all the disciplines of study be incorporated into the traditional STEM structure with similar success as the arts?

Love the idea.... you just needed more elaboration. What is the hat made of? Directions for the teacher? Where is the engineering component of this lesson?

I do not have a link for teacher directions, although I am sure that they are out there somewhere. Even if it is just for a general brain shaped hat. The engineering component of this lesson could be seen in the construction of the hat, where the art would be the actual filling in of the information on the hat
